Cid turns out to be one of the great leaders of the team in Final Fantasy VII. You first meet him in Rocket Town. Rufus comes to steal his plane. Cloud and the team save it, and Cid escapes with them on the Tiny Bronco. Always smoking, cursing, and insulting people, you would think that he is a bad addition to your team. But he is strong in a fight, and an expert of all machines flying. He is critical to your safe escape from Junon, when Weapon attacked. He is able to get the airship Highwind for the team, a crucial part to their success. When Cloud washes up on shore, suffering from Mako poisoning, Cid takes control of the team, and proves to be a competant leader, helping get back some of the Huge Materia, and saving Corel from certain doom.
When trying to stop Shinra from launching a rocket with the Huge Materia into Meteor (and failing) Cid achieves his dream of flying into space. Also, Shera, his friend who ruined his first mission, saved him on this mission. After they escape the ship and save the Huge Materia, Cid is fueled to kill Sephiroth to save the beautiful universe he glimpsed at in the rocket.
