Tifa is Cloud's best friend. This is unfortunate for her, she is obviously in love with Cloud, but he never gets it. She is probably the only person that keeps Cloud alive. When Cloud comes to Sector 7 to meet her, she is shocked that he doesn't remember much, that his memories aren't his own. As Cloud is in a comatose state due to Mako poisoning, she stays with him and abandons the party. When they fall into the lifestream, she guides Cloud through his memories, helping him find the "real" Cloud. Also, she says she wants to save the planet, but her real motives on going on the journey is to be with Cloud, as is obvious in the touching scene where they lay with one another as the others find their reason for fighting Sephiroth. Cloud is her reason, but unfortunately Cloud is oblivious to the fact.
